Warrensville Center Road

Kokosing’s role as a subcontractor on this 1.3-mile, $614,627 project on Warrensville Center Road, which stretched from Cedar Road to Mayfield Road, was to mill nearly 49,000 square yards of asphalt at a depth of 3 inches. Working directly behind another subcontractor’s single chip seal application, Kokosing’s crew placed a 448(2) intermediate course at a 1 ¾-inch depth, and later a 1 ¼-inch depth 448(1 PG 70-22) surface course.

The surface course had to meet certain temperature requirements that Mother Nature didn’t provide for nearly two weeks after the project’s scheduled completion. Kokosing waited for its “temperature window” and placed 2,700-tons of surface course material. To ensure a quality finish, Kokosing staggered two pavers side-by-side to ensure a proper hot-sealed joint.
