Putnam Street Bridge

The $11.4-million Putnam Street Bridge is a balanced cantilever cast-in-place segmental bridge spanning 690 feet across the Muskingum River. Construction of the single-cell, full-width, cast-in-place, segmental box structure features a main span constructed on a 738-foot radius that allowed the bridge’s ends to tie into the river banks at approximately the same location as the previous structure.

The project was originally designed as a two-box, pre-cast segmental structure connected by a closure strip, but Kokosing’s value-engineering proposal resulted in a half-million dollar savings to the owner. The re-design of the project also allowed for the replacement bridge to be constructed without removal of the existing bridge, which maintained travel across the river during construction.

This project is the first balanced cantilever cast-in-place segmental bridge constructed by Kokosing.
