Gateway Engergy and Coke Company

The Gateway Energy and Coke Company project is designed to replace an existing outdated coke facility with a new 120 oven coke plant capable of producing 650,000 tons of quality coke per year for the adjacent US Steel Mill. This facility will employ the use of clean heat recovery ovens that converts waste heat into steam and electricity. On this particular project the steam from the coke making process will be sold to US Steel to transform into electricity at their cogeneration facility. Kokosing Construction is one of six different prime contractors working on building this new facility. Our original base contract was for all the civil work (Placing all the concrete foundations, grading, roadwork etc.), and construction of several of the buildings around the site.  We have been selected to perform several other contracts for the Steel and Mechanical erection of the Heat Recovery Steam Generators as well as erection of the support steel for the Pipe Rack, and  machinery erection (Pusher Charger Machine, and Stationary Ram).   We are looking to complete this project on schedule in early Fall of 2009.
