Middletown Coke and Cogeneration Facility

In 2008, Kokosing began construction of a green-field 100-oven metallurgical coke & cogeneration power facility for SunCoke Energy in Middletown, Ohio.  The completed plant will supply AK Steel Middletown Works with blast furnace coke and electrical power.  Along with the coke ovens, the plant includes heat recovery steam generators, a 67-MW steam-driven power plant, flue gas desulphurization facilities, and appurtenant coal & coke handling systems.  Construction of the project includes approximately 1,100,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 40,000 lineal feet of underground piping, 40,000 cubic yards of concrete, 3,600,000 refractory brick, 10,500 lineal feet of conveyors, 25,000 lineal feet of mechanical piping, and 1,000,000 lineal feet of electrical cable.  In addition to completing the site work and electrical designs, Kokosing and its subsidiaries will self-perform approximately 95% of the project total manhours.  The $340 million project is scheduled to be complete in 2010.
