SunCoke Haverhill North Facility
Kokosing’s ability to get the difficult job done has earned it repeat business from Knoxville, Tenn.-based SunCoke Energy.
Initially for SunCoke, Kokosing constructed 100 coke ovens, coal and coke handling conveyors, a Flu Gas Desulphurization system and five Heat Recovery Steam Generators. Kokosing met the project owner’s aggressive design/build fast-track construction schedule and completed the $150-million, phase 1 project within 15 months.
Success in Phase 1 earned Kokosing the opportunity to construct the $230-million second phase. Phase 2 called for Kokosing to build another 100 coke ovens at the Haverhill site, along with a 64-megawatt steam turbine generator.
Kokosing’s ability to self-perform nearly all aspects of construction enabled successful completion of a facility that will be using environmentally friendly technology to produce high-quality metallurgical coke used in steel production, and providing electricity for years to come.
The projects demonstrated Kokosing’s diverse construction experience, design capabilities and ability to self-perform work to meet aggressive project timelines.
