A key part of this 6.5-mile design/build project was the installation of 300,000 square yards of 10.75-inch plain concrete pavement and 30,000 cubic yards (cy) of cement-treated free draining base. Concrete on the $73.8-million project was produced by one of Kokosing’s Erie Strayer portable concrete plants.

Kokosing ensured that concrete production on the 18-month fast-track project remained on schedule by having the plant and crews working double shifts in order to maintain the aggressive schedule.

The project, which included the design and construction of four bridges, also had Kokosing move more than 7.5-million cy of earth.
