Upper Olentangy Water Reclamation Center

In the expansion/upgrade of the Upper Olentangy Water Reclamation Center from a 5.5-million gallon per day (MGD) facility to a 30 MGD facility, Kokosing and our design subcontractor performed the $26-million design/build project in two phases to maintain treatment capacity during construction.

In providing a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility, that was delivered on-schedule and on-budget, the City of Delaware now has:

• Protection of public health through the discharge of higher-quality effluent into the Olentangy River, which is classified as an “Exceptional Warm Water Habitat” and a “State Scenic River”
• A sustainable Biological Nutrient Removal System
• Operational flexibility to accommodate a Peak Flow Rate of 30 MGD, while eliminating the environmental impact of sewer overflows

In an effort to receive a superior project at a lower cost, the City of Delaware changed its charter to include the design/build delivery system.
