KMI Corp Facility Improvements
Kokosing self-performed design/build work at KMI Corp.’s Mansfield Asphalt Terminal and Mansfield Polymer Plant facilities.
At the Mansfield Asphalt Terminal, Kokosing performed design, fabrication and construction of 12-million gallons of storage capacity, which included:
• Three 78-foot-diameter, 48-foot-tall asphalt tanks
• One 100-foot-diameter, 48-foot-tall asphalt tank
• One 120-foot-diameter, 48-foot-tall asphalt tank
The terminal facility features both a rail and truck system for unloading/loading liquid asphalt. Kokosing designed, fabricated and constructed 150- and 225-HP steam boiler heating systems to heat the liquid asphalt. The rail unloading system designed and constructed by Kokosing allows for 10 rail cars to be steamed and unloaded simultaneously, as an 8-million BTU hot oil heater keeps the liquid asphalt at approximately 310-degrees F. A system of 6-inch-diameter piping and six asphalt pumps circulates the liquid to the storage area, where it remains before being loaded into tanker trucks for distribution to KMI’s asphalt plants.
Also for the asphalt terminal facility, Kokosing provided work in civil design, site drainage, a containment dike and plant layout for foundations.
For the Mansfield Polymer Plant, which is an addition to the asphalt facility, Kokosing provided design, fabrication and construction of the 300 HP mill, two batching tanks and two product mixing tanks. Kokosing also provided design and construction of the plant layout, foundations, piping and process equipment.
