Alum Creek Water Reclamation Facility
Along with the challenge of building a $44.3-million treatment facility that can handle up to 10-million gallons a day of wastewater, Kokosing successfully met the requirements of the 26-month project both inside and out. Kokosing executed construction of the plant’s unique design features, including numerous, low “prairie style” structures that would blend with the natural surroundings through its construction of:
• An Administration Building
• Explosion-proof Pre-treatment Facility
• Blower Structure
• Aeration Tanks, Sludge Storage tanks and Digesters
• 135-foot diameter Clarifiers
• Post-treatment Facility
• Tertiary Filter Building
• Maintenance Facility
• Solids Handling Facility
• Drainage Pump Station
Along with the aforementioned construction, Kokosing performed the site’s extensive excavating, asphalt paving and the installation of an irrigation system. Because of the facility’s proximity to residential areas, Kokosing accomplished the additional challenge of having it blend with the surrounding neighborhoods by providing terracing, earth mounding and extensive landscaping, as well as installing a high-tech scrubbing system to minimize odors from the facility.
