Large amounts of demolition, earthwork, drainage and highway construction is featured in this ongoing $50.3-million, ODOT project to construct 5.74 miles of new four-lane highway on S.R. 161 in Licking County.

Along with construction of new highway, the project features an interchange, eight bridge structures and more than 5.4 miles of new frontage roads.

The project’s Initial work included the demolition of more than 35 structures along the right of way of the new highway. Next, Kokosing utilized its fleet of CAT 631 scrapers and CAT 740 off-road dump trucks to perform more than 2.1-million cubic yards of earthwork; mass excavation crews worked day and night to expedite earth moving and fill work. Next, Kokosing drainage crews installed more than 35 miles of underdrain, and 6.2 miles of storm sewers – which included 22 culverts up to 120-inches in diameter. Kokosing concrete crews will place more than 18,000 square yards of 9-inch concrete for construction of ramps for the S.R. 161/S.R. 37 interchange.
