Montgomery County I-75/SR4 Reconstruction

Within the reconstruction project in downtown Dayton, Kokosing is constructing 17 bridges and 37 MSE walls, 20 of which are permanent. The majority of the $121.9-million project’s bridgework is built on piles, while three structures span the Great Miami River and have foundations within the water and floodplain.

The pile bridges include:
• 30,500 linear feet (lf) of HP12x53
• 25,200 lf of HP14x73
• 6,300 lf of 12-inch tube
• 32,500 lf of 14-inch tube
• 1,700 lf of 16-inch tube

Bridges spanning the river include 11 foundations requiring construction within water and floodplain areas. Kokosing is circumventing this obstacle with the use of 125,000 square feet of sheet piling – which it is performing with numerous pile crews and company-owned equipment in order to maintain proper phasing of the project’s fast-track schedule. All cofferdams were designed in-house and provide for maximum material re-use, so as to provide the lowest cost to the owner.
