Main Street Bridge
This three-span inclined arch bridge with a 675' total length and a 400' main span is the first of its kind in the United States. The superstructure consists of trapezoidal steel vehicular boxes with floor beams projecting off both sides. The keystone piece of the project is a fabricated steel arch spanning the main channel and supporting the pedestrian walkway. This arch will peak at 60' above deck level and will be inclined from vertical by 10 degrees and connected to the deck with rigid steel struts and hanger cables.
The overall weight of the structural steel is 5,725,000 pounds and was fabricated by PDM Bridge in Wisconsin. Kokosing completed the erection of the vehicular boxes, the heaviest of which was 650,000 pounds, using a Manitowoc 2250, Manitowoc 888, and a 250 ton hydraulic crane. The erection of the arch segments weighing up to 500,000 pounds each was completed with a Manitowoc 2250 and Manitowoc 999. All steel erection on this project was self performed.
