Georgetown Conduit Residual Pipeline
Working within the fragile conditions of a historic, brick Washington, D.C. tunnel – which provided only one access point – Kokosing’s Durocher Marine Division installed 11,000 linear feet of 12-inch-diameter, sub-aqueous ball and socket ductile iron pipeline.
Because of the more than 140-year-old tunnel’s brittle brick work, it was required that no anchoring or significant contact could be made with the tunnel’s interior. In order to successfully complete the $731,784, six-week, fast-track project, Durocher Marine floated the nearly 2.3 miles of pipe segments into place, then connected and sunk the pipe into position.
