GALION — The city of Galion and Kokosing Construction Company were recently presented with a Quality Award for Asphalt Paving in the Airport Pavement division at the Flexible Pavements of Ohio 47th Annual awards luncheon in Columbus.

Kokosing Construction Company was the project contractor on the Galion Municipal Airport, Rehabilitation and Overlay of Runway, Terminal Apron, and Taxiway project. Work on this project involved the repair and resurfacing of the entire airport runway. In addition to sealing existing cracks, nearly three thousand square yards of Glas-Grid Pavement reinforcement mesh were installed for prevention of reflection cracking. Using a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) P-401 leveling course and a 1.25-inch surface course, the runway rehabilitation was completed.
Also included in the project were removal of existing concrete aprons and improvements to pavement drainage. Nearly 5,000 tons of hot mix asphalt was used in constructing this airfield pavement project
