Kokosing Construction Receives National Building Award for Michael A.
Fox
Highway - Local
Firm Honored by Prestigious Aon 2000 Build
America
Award
(SEATTLE)
-- Kokosing Construction Company was
awarded the 2000 Aon Build America Award – “the Oscar of the Construction Industry” – today in Seattle, Washington, for its
work on the recently completed Michael A. Fox Highway.
Presented
by the Association of General Contractors (AGC), the Aon Build America
Awards are considered the premier
honor for work in the industry. Recognizing state-of-the-art advancement,
excellence in project management and
client service, innovation in construction techniques or materials,
community relations, and sensitivity to the environment,
the Build America Awards are selected by a contractor’s toughest critics
– other contractors.
“We
are honored to receive this prestigious award – especially because it
comes directly from our industry colleagues,”
said Brian Burgett, President and CEO of Kokosing Construction. “Even
before we were honored with the
Build America Award, we were pleased with the intense work and
coordination which put the project nine solid months
ahead of schedule – something unique in road construction.”
The
largest project ever let by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT),
the 10.7-mile, $158 million highway connecting
the city of Hamilton to I-75 through Fairfield and Liberty townships
opened Dec. 13. Currently, it accommodates
approximately 35,000 vehicles daily.
“The
Michael A. Fox Highway saves many drivers at least 10 to 15 minutes, and
it will help alleviate much of the traffic
congestion on secondary routes. We will also see a major influence on
economic development in the area,” said
Greg Wilkens, Butler County Transportation Improvement District (TID)
executive director. Wilkins continued “Kokosing
Construction had an outstanding team that went beyond the call of duty to
get the project completed in record
time.”
In
May 1998, Kokosing Construction Company was awarded the contract to build
the highway after submitting the lowest
bid. ME Companies, contract management, and Resource International,
construction management and inspection,
also were included in the construction team.
