KOKOSING CONSTRUCTION CO. INC. WINS NATIONAL AWARD FOR QUALITY IN ASPHALT PAVING

Lanham, MD - The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that Kokosing Construction Co. Inc. of Fredericktown, Ohio, has won a 2000 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award at a special ceremony at the Association's 46th Annual Convention in Orlando.

The company won for its construction of a section of the Butler County Regional Highway. To ensure the highest-quality roadway possible, Kokosing Construction Co. put together a "Paving for Quality Manual" that documented specific task and job responsibilities for its employees. Since this was a five-year-warranty project, the company chose asphalt mixes and paving practices that would not only meet but also exceed the five-year period. The company won a bonus for the smooth roadway it produced.

The Quality in Construction Awards recognize Hot Mix Asphalt pavements of excellence. "NAPA selects the recipients of its paving awards using a known set of standards that have been shown to give a good result," commented R. Wayne Evans, Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. "This award demonstrates the high quality of work that the HMA industry is achieving."

The National Asphalt Pavement Association is the only association that exclusively represents the interests of the Hot Mix Asphalt producer/contractor on the national level with Congress, government agencies, and other national trade and business organizations. NAPA supports an active research program designed to improve the quality of HMA pavements and paving techniques used in the construction of roads, streets, highways, parking lots, airports, and environmental and recreational facilities. The Association provides technical, educational, and marketing materials and information to its members, as well as product information to users and specifiers of paving materials. The Association, whose members number more than 1,000 companies, was founded in 1955.
