Course Description

OSHA 30 hour

The majority of this course covers the 29 CFR 1926 Standards for Construction. Company policies for each standard are also included in the class. Teambuilding ideas and strategies, task analysis, and an extensive amount of hands-on demonstrations are also included. Pretests, daily tests and final tests are administered to verify comprehension.

OSHA 16 Hour Refresher

This course is a 2-day review of OSHA regulations and Kokosing safety processes. This course is meant to be a refresher for those employees who have completed OSHA 30 Hour/Supervisory Training. The content will take a look at each topic referencing the OSHA standard, real jobsite scenarios, Kokosing policy, safety talks, safety concerns, and other safety reference material available to all supervision. Employees will be tested and evaluated on in-depth, real world scenarios and knowledge of 1926 OSHA standards as well as Kokosing safety procedures.

Saws Train-the-Trainer

This course covers information on the safe use, operation and maintenance of all types of hand-held cut-off saws, ring saws, and chain saws. Classroom lecture and practical sessions provide the participants with the proper safety training information, hands-on basic maintenance, as well as experience in operation of each type of saw. This class certifies each participant to train employees to operate these saws.

Manlift Train-the-Trainer

This course consists of two parts. The first portion consists of classroom discussion on the company training policies, procedures and general safety information particular to all types of aerial lifts. The second portion consists of hands-on operation and inspection of a number of company owned aerial lifts. This course certifies participants to train employees how to properly inspect, maintain, and operate aerial lifts up to and including 80 feet in length. Aerial lifts that reach beyond 80 feet require training by certain Kokosing maintenance personnel.

Confined Space Competent Person

This course consists of two parts. The first portion is an in-depth classroom discussion of the hazards associated with confined space entry, responsibilities of the supervisor, attendant, entrant, and rescuer; the permit process, control procedures, rescue measures, and atmospheric testing. The second portion is a simulated entry with hands-on work with the equipment and materials needed to properly perform a confined space entry. This course qualifies participants as competent persons in confined space entry.

Confined Space Rescue

This course covers the proper techniques to perform both non-entry and entry rescue into a confined space. The course consists of classroom discussion of rescue procedures, as well as a hands-on simulated rescue situation. This course certifies participants to perform all forms of confined space rescue with the proper equipment.

Crane Safety

This 3-day course consists of classroom discussion of the OSHA, ASME, and ANSI standards for mobile cranes as well as industry-wide standard operating procedures. The participants will also perform exercises in determining crane capacities using actual crane charts and real life situations. This course provides participants with the correct company procedures; and manufacturer, government, and industry best practices to more efficiently and safely operate cranes on jobsites.

Fall Protection Competent Person

This course covers in-depth classroom discussion on all aspects of fall protection methods. The course discusses elimination of fall hazards, traditional fall protection methods, fall arrest systems, fall restraint systems, fall protection procedures, and rescue. Participants are introduced to all types of fall protection equipment relevant to work at Kokosing and have the opportunity to inspect such equipment. A fall protection sales representative will also perform the fall protection demonstration. This course certifies a participant as a competent person in fall protection.

Fall Protection Qualified Person

This 5-day course offers an advanced curriculum covering the five basic methods of fall protection and current fall protection practices, fall protection theory, and fall protection engineering. Workshop exercises include calculation of clearances, energy dissipation, anchorage strengths, swing falls, and performance of horizontal lifelines (including multiple spans, flexible anchorages, temperature effects, etc.).

Rigging

This course will cover the basic fundamentals of rigging. Included is how to inspect rigging, the proper way to rig a load, what not to do with rigging, along with several examples of damaged or improper rigging.

Scaffold Competent Person

This course covers OSHA 1926 Subpart L, scaffold hazards, capacity, construction and teardown procedures, access and inspection. Practical hands-on scaffolding exercises are included in the training.

Steel Erection

This course covers requirements for the OSHA 1926 Steel Erection Standard. Topics include fall protection, training requirements, multiple lifts and site layout.

Traffic Control Supervisor

This course will certify participants to become a Traffic Control Supervisor. This class covers the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control and Devices (MUTCD) and includes typical traffic control set-ups, traffic control device standards, and flagger requirements.

Trench Competent Person

This course will qualify participants to become a competent person for trenching and excavation. This class covers soil classifications, protective systems, responsibilities of a competent person, and OSHA standards.

Defensive Driving (Decision Driving)

This class will demonstrate the skills needed to make quick, correct decisions while driving. Class includes a mirror check station on a CDL vehicle and hands-on commentary driving. Recommended for employees who pull trailers or drive CDL vehicles.

First Aid/CPR

This class instructs participants on how to perform basic first aid techniques for adults, how to perform adult CPR, and how to use the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). This is an eight hour class, which is renewed every three years. This class is required for all foreman, superintendents, and management.
