I-75/SR 4 Montgomery County Reconstruction
Magnificent gateway to Dayton’s downtown.
INSIDE THE PROJECT
Kokosing successfully constructed this $125 million project which rebuilt I-75/SR 4 interchange in downtown Dayton, previously known as “Malfunction Junction”. The project was only 1.5 miles in length, but included 13 phases of work involving 850,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 300,000 square feet of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls, 130,000 tons of asphalt, 30,000 feet of underground utilities, and 14 bridges, including two 9-span bridges over the Great Miami River.
Many of the bridges and retaining walls incorporated intricate aesthetic elements. Due to the massive size of this project, the number of daily commuters, and the number of property owners affected by this project, a partnership of trust, shared knowledge, and cooperation developed quickly with all the local stakeholders.
The completion of this project provided the City of Dayton with a magnificent gateway to their downtown and a safe and efficient freeway for the traveling public.
