Heavy Civil Hap Cremean Water Treatment Plant Intake Structure and Low Head Dam Rehabilitation

The City of Columbus retained Kokosing Industrial for this important project to maintain raw water supply to Hap Cremean Water Plant located on Big Walnut Creek. Work included demolition and reconfiguration of the screening channels, new mechanical screening equipment, and related electrical systems, as well as HVAC improvements. The concrete low head dam received needed repairs, and the creek itself was dredged and its banks stabilized.

Successful completion of the project meant Kokosing had to overcome challenges including:

  • Maintaining raw water influent to plant during intake improvements via temporary wood bulkheads
  • Arms-length internal repair of approx. 1,800 LF of 96- and 84-inch pre-stressed concrete pipe (PCCP)

Hap Cremean Water Plant, Columbus’ oldest drinking water facility, underwent improvements to its raw water intake structure and low head dam, to increase reliability and extend its useful life. As Columbus continues to grow, dependable means of capturing and treating water is paramount.
