Water Resources Second Barrel Interconnector Augmentation

Process and building components of this greenfield facility included:

– influent screening facility and aeration tanks
– secondary control building with blowers and sludge pumps
– flow splitting
– final settling tanks
– tertiary filtration facilities
– UV disinfection and post aeration
– liquid sludge thickening and storage
– 8,000 feet ~ 60-inch diameter effluent piping
– administration, laboratory and storage buildings

Sitework included approximately 216,000 cubic yards of earthwork; placement of over 28,000 cubic yards of concrete foundations, walls and slabs; 2,300 tons of reinforcing steel; and 54,000 lineal feet of underground piping. Construction and material handling efforts were supported by use of a tower crane and maintaining a team of more than 150 union craft personnel and area superintendents to deliver the project in only 26 months.

Kokosing answered the challenge: to transform an agricultural field into a fully functional, state- of-the art, $65-million, 8 MGD wastewater treatment facility in only 26 months.
