Kokosing Supports Expansion of Arlington National Cemetery

By

Outside of the nation’s capital, Kokosing is transforming the interchange of Columbia Pike and Washington Boulevard at the south end of Arlington National Cemetery. This work is part of the Arlington National Cemetery Defense Access Roads project, which will extend the site’s active use for decades by adding 80,000 burial plots to the southern portion.

Kokosing will convert the interchange from a cloverleaf into a tight diamond configuration. The project is entering its final maintenance of traffic phase, with ongoing activities including the installation of two retaining walls, roadway paving, and the connection of new sewer and waterlines to existing infrastructure.

The project, which began in 2021 encompasses extensive work across utilities, structures, and roadways. Kokosing has achieved key milestones, including the turnover of the South Parcel in spring 2023 and the incentivized West Parcel in spring 2025. Both parcels involved major efforts such as constructing large retaining walls, relocating and installing utilities and moving over 500,000 cubic yards of earth.
