Quality Control department is made up of Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Level 2 and Level 3 certified personnel responsible for the following: Development and submittal of Marshall and Superpave mix designs. Plant production testing of asphalt mixes for ODOT and private customers. In-place density and core sampling for ODOT and private customers. Maintenance and Standardization of asphalt testing equipment. Kokosing Materials, Inc. has an AASHTO resource (R-18, D3666) accredited Asphalt Binder and Asphalt Mixture testing laboratory located in Mansfield, OH. This full-service lab has the required equipment to perform Superpave design and Marshall design procedures. Performance testing can be done using the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA), capable of determining susceptibility to rutting, fatigue cracking, and stripping. The Asphalt Binder and Asphalt Mixture (Level 3) laboratory in Mansfield is also ODOT approved. A second Asphalt Mixture (Level 3) testing laboratory is located in Garfield Heights, OH. Each of the KMI asphalt plants has an on-site ODOT approved Level 2 testing laboratory. Binder testing technicians are also certified under The Asphalt Institute National Binder Technician Certification Program – Certification #’s: AI79, AI274 The Quality Control Department has been instrumental in assisting Kokosing Construction Company, Inc. achieve recognition both locally and nationally for quality asphalt pavements.
