Transportation Franklin I-270 Interstate Reconstruction

The I-270 Reconstruction Project included the rehabilitation and widening of an 8 mile stretch of I-270 on the west side of Columbus. Work on the project included full-depth roadway widening, rehabilitation and widening of three sets of mainline twin bridges, median barrier installation, asphalt mill and fill of 3-4 lanes in each direction of travel, and construction of four noise walls on the east side of the northbound travel lanes. Major quantities include 129,000 sy of pavement removal, 210,300 lf of underdrain installation, 380,600 tons of asphalt pavement, 107,900 sf of noise wall, 145,000 lbs. of structural steel, and 581,700 lbs. of reinforcing steel.

This project also included replacing and widening the decks on one set of twin bridges over Hayden Run Road, two slab bridges over Raymond Run Creek, and two slab bridges over Cramer Ditch. There is an extensive amount of asphalt on this project, which included over 380,000 tons of asphalt and 455,000 SY of milling/filling of the existing lanes in each direction. The total amount of asphalt accounted for approximately $20 million of the total contract amount. The other major items of work included in this project are the reconstruction of 18,500 SY of the existing concrete pavement at the south end of the project in the southbound direction, installing 108,000 SF of noise wall along 270 northbound around Hayden Run Road, 125,000 CY of excavation to be hauled to waste, and installing 2,900 LF of bored pipe underneath 270.
