Site/Civil I-71 MARTIN LUTHER KING INTERCHANGE

INSIDE THE PROJECT

Kokosing constructed a new interchange at I-71 and Martin Luther King Drive, approximately three miles north of downtown Cincinnati. This heavily traveled area, known as ‘Uptown,’ is considered Cincinnati’s largest ‘economic engine’ with the close proximity of the University of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Zoo, and several local hospitals.

Using the Design-Build method, the Kokosing team designed and constructed a new full diamond interchange at Martin Luther King Drive, including several new and rehabilitated bridge structures and 100,000 square feet of retaining walls. In addition to the structural elements, the project required rehabilitation and widening of I-71, reconstruction of numerous local city streets, and maintenance of urban traffic throughout the construction phasing.
