Over two years of anticipated schedule delays were mitigated with Kokosing’s value engineering proposal, which resulted in an agile and reliable pumping system at a reduced cost: • In lieu of replacing (3) three, and refurbishment of (2) two, HSPs, a re-sequenced approach to refurbish (4) four of the six pumps and replacing only one (1) pump was put into action. The 2,000-3,000 Hp motors associated with these (5) pumps were also refurbished. Further work included refurbishment of a combination of nearly three dozen gate and cone valves ranging from 24- to 48-inch diameter, along with full replacement of 12 additional 24- to 48-inch cone, gate and butterfly valves. Renovated Pump Station building elements included: locker rooms, offices and operator stations; doors and windows; electrical components; masonry and structural throughout – including corrections to mitigate groundwater intrusion through exterior walls. The high service pump station at the Collins Park Water Plant the backbone water supply to the city’s distribution system that supports the daily water needs of approximately 500,000 people. The first major upgrade at the plant since 1956, the Kokosing team executed a value-add proposal to mitigate concerns over long-lead items, which saved upwards to 2 years in delays and service interruptions and offered a $2 million credit to Toledo.
