Marine Yard’s Park Bridge – Diamond Teague Park

KEY CHALLENGES & PROJECT DETAILS

  • Construction of waterfront park linking the Washington Nationals’ baseball park to the Anacostia River, creating a continuous one-mile Riverwalk train publically accessible within the Capitol riverfront
  • Construction of pier, docks, boardwalks and park
  • Construction of 30’ wide by 374’ long decorative boardwalk, consisting of a timber and metal deck on a structural steel frame
  • Installation of concrete grade beams and 58 14-inch pre-stressed concrete piles to support the boardwalk
  • Construction of the Yard’s Park Pedestrian Bridge, 20’ wide by 700’ long, connecting to existing historic pump house and Diamond Teague Park., Yard’s Park, and Nationals Park
  • Construction of aluminum gangways, attaching the main floating piers to the shoreline
  • Installation of decorative handrails, bridge decking, fire water lines, and floating plant islands
  • Project required 10 to 12-hour work shifts, 6 days a week until completion
